Benzimidazole derivatives are the most common and versatile therapeutic agents used to treat helminth infections. The antihelmintic properties of those drugs are usually attributed to their selective binding to parasite ß-tubulin but other mechanisms are not excluded. The benzimidazole scaffold has also been used to develop various GPCR ligands. |
